Hey there! How are you?
My name is Garrett and I’m really happy that you stopped by my blog site. I hope you stick around and check out all of my articles.
This blog site is mostly about music and musicians and bands and all that kind of thing.
Music is my passion. I’ve been a musician since I was a tiny kid, way before I knew that music was even a thing and that some people learned and some people didn’t.
I guess I just kind of fell in to music. My parents were musicians themselves, and they created a singing group out of our family. (I have three sisters and two brothers.) At first we were all just singers. We learned different parts and harmonies, and we sang together a capella.
I guess we were quite a thing, because we actually toured the country and had a pretty rigorous concert schedule. (I say “I guess” because I really don’t remember much of it. I was the youngest and I don’t have a lot of memories of those years.)
I’m told we did that for several years. I think that there were some issues that cropped up with some of my siblings and my parents decided we needed to stay put somewhere and create a more stable family environment. So the touring got put on a shelf.
I started learning acoustic guitar when I was seven and then added electric and eventually switched to bass. Bass guitar is what I settled into; it was a fit for me. I liked creating a musical floor with the drummer. I liked providing the glue that holds a band together. Also I found that I preferred being at the back of a band rather than on the front of the stage.
I never had this huge desire to be in the spotlight or to be the star of the show or the frontman of the band. I did like being on stage, and I liked playing to big crowds, but I preferred to be in the tier behind the front guy.
So playing bass worked for me for several reasons.
Anyway, that’s a bit about me and my musical background. I’m currently in a band, and I wanted to start a blog about music in general and about musicians and band life in particular. There are so many of us musicians out there, and I felt like there was a need for a blog to connect us and bring us together.
My idea for this blog is that people can post blogs and comment on blogs and get conversation threads going. I’m the moderator. I don’t want to be the only one writing and posting articles. There is so much great information out there, and I’d like this blog to be kind of a clearinghouse for that.
So thanks for coming by. Please browse all of the articles, and do respond if you have something to add that could benefit the musical community!
